12/4/2011 Looking back on 2011...

Hello All,

Today is Lollipop's Second birthday and I wonder where the time has gone. (Yes, she's partying all day).

2011 has been filled with magical experiences and mystical numbers (1-1-11, 1-11-11, 11-1-11, 11-11-11, etc.) and it's been a productive year for writing and music:

Some of the highlights of my artistic year are:

MUSIC:
- Playing Eddie's Attic the first time and 3 times after that.
- Performing in festivals, shows, and songwriter showcases all over Atlanta
- Performing at the Hotel Indigo in Nashville for the first time
- Recording two songs at Groovetunes Studios
- Creating this website and learning to manage all other social networking tools.
- Writing several new songs that I can't wait to record

WRITING:
- Freelance writing for Examiner.com and Patch.com
- Being Featured as the Poet/Artist in Target Audience Magazine's Summer 2011 Edition
- Writing regularly and submitting work for review/contests...news about these
in January 2012.
- Completing my screenplay "My Life" and the music to accompany it.
- Joining screenwriter communities and preparing to submit work for readings.

Truly, I'm very grateful for all of these opportunities.

Now, I'm gearing up and looking forward to next year, full of plans and promise, while nuturing and watching these seeds develop and grow. (Oh yes, I started a garden last year and I hope to expand that from 5 pots into something grand too).

First up in January is my first solo acoustic show at Smith's Olde Bar, back to back with Marc Lawson, on Jan 5, 2011. Cool! Hope to see you there!

Personally, life is magical as well and I find myself feeling lucky and blessed each day even amidst the confusion and chaos of working through life's detours and obstacles.

Cheers to the end of 2011, and to all of you great folks I've met along the way!

Happy Holidays!!

It's Halloween already and a cold 38 degrees. I did a lot of creative work this weekend but Monday's always feel cold, even when the temperature is a little warmer.

Looking forward to escaping later with my zombie love.

Have a happy and safe Halloween!

2-21-11 2 Find U

The dates this year are freaky-- so many prime numbers.

Anyway, today I went to Groove Tunes Studios to record my other new song "2 Find U" - the second time in the studio was easier-- less pressure and fear of the click today.

I'm really excited to keep working on this EP project-- look for "To Find U" to be on my Reverb site later this week!

Cheers!

2-12-11 Here comes the sun!

I love that Beatles' song and I love the sun.

I'm a West Coast girl, so it's rough when there's no shine in the sky.

It's been a wild week since publishing my first article for Examiner.com. I had the privilege of interviewing Jordan Lally of Fiction 20 Down and chatted about important issues facing indie musicians-- EP vs. LP, big labels vs. remaining independent, the sacrifice of going on the road. I so enjoyed speaking with him and he was extremely gracious. If you haven't made plans, head out to the Masquerade tomorrow to see Fiction 20 Down, Ballyhoo, and Iration. Here's a link to my article about Jordan and F20D in case you're interested: No regrets for Jordan Lally of Fiction 20 Down

Today, I ventured into my garage...thinking it'd be a good day to be outside getting something done. I got as far as a box of my old writing and let myself get distracted by some of my quirky poetry. I've uploaded one of my favorites: "Peas-- A Play in Ten Acts" Click on the poetry button above if you'd like to peek at the Peas...And I retyped the poem with Lollipop sleeping on my lap, so that's the new profile pic here.

Tomorrow it will be warmer..and the next day warmer than that. I'm excited. I'll get that garage cleaned out by March 1st. I'm sure of it.

2-7-11 What a day!

Wow! I am in awe of this day. First, I was able to spend my day at Groove Tunes Studios in Alpharetta with owner/engineer Eric Tunison, recording for my CRAZY EP project that I've just begun, a project inspired in part by the RPM Challenge promoted by Eddie's Attic. Visit his page by clicking the link to see pictures and learn more about Groove Tunes Studios!

This was my first studio session and while I can't say it's not work, Eric made everything smooth and easy. I learned so much in just this first session and I can't wait for the next session, scheduled on 2/14/11. Today, I recorded my new song "Crazy," the title track to the project. I plan to have free CD's of this song later this week to share at my upcoming performance at the Decatur Library this Thursday night and at the Woodstock Coffee House on 2/18/11. Please visit my Reverbnation site for more details on upcoming shows.)

And the next BIG NEWS: When I arrived home and checked my email, I had a message that my first article, "What is an Indie Artist--Not the Black Eyed Peas" has been published on Examiner.com! I am now officially an Examiner with the title "Atlanta Indie Music Examiner" and will be posting multiple articles weekly. Click on the article title to read this article and please subscribe to my page! Please contact me at jeanniecaryn@gmail.com if you have a topic or know an Indie Artist you'd like to see me cover.

So, as I said, what a day!! I wonder what will happen tomorrow?

1-29-11 Chasing Butterflies

Wow-- Spring is around the corner-- it's going to be in the 60's today in Atlanta. How inspiring! I'm sure the butterflies will be back soon; I've got Lollipop believing it and right now she is searching for them in the yard. :)

The end of the month brings 'round reflection and I must say I'm pleased with much of what I've accomplished this first month of 2011: submitting writing to various contests/publications, playing at Eddie's Attic twice along with other cool venues (check out www.reverbnation.com/jeanniecaryn for upcoming music performances I've scheduled), going out to hear other amazing musicians play good live music, writing a couple of new songs and learning about song structure and studio recording, writing and revising a new short story entitled "The Robe" (up for your feedback under my link for short stories later today) spending time with people that matter most to me, and not having one day that made me feel as if I am wasting time.

I'm excited for February to begin!

1-16-10

Busy week--job searching is dreadful even by choice so I found it easy to distract myself by writing during the great snowglobe adventure we had here in Atlanta. I ended up creating a short story to accompany a painting I did in December. The story is entitled "The Robe"-- it needs a bit more revision and then I'll post it up here for anyone interested....is anyone out there? It's past midnight. Shhhhh....Maybe you're all asleep? ;)

Snow on the ground: Pug on lap; Music in ears; Bloody Mary in hand. ;)

"There is no more fatal blunderer than he who consumes the greater part of his life getting his living. " Henry David Thoreau

Resigned from Cobb County yesterday. I've wanted to quit teaching since 1996 when I started. It feels good. Much to do today!
